YMCA Returns to Fort Monroe

HAMPTON, VIRGINIA:  Michael B. Divaris, president of Divaris Real Estate Inc. (DRE), announced the signing of three leases for space in Hampton Roads, Virginia that total approximately 40,000 square feet.

The largest of the three leases was completed with Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA for 34,020 square feet of space at Building 171 at 8 Ruckman Road in the historic former army base Fort Monroe.  The 565-acre National Historic Landmark District is being leased by DRE and managed by Divaris affiliate Old Point Comfort Real Estate Services, LLC.

The Fort Monroe YMCA dates to 1903 when it was the first YMCA on an Army post anywhere in the US.  The facility closed when military personnel were transferred away from the base.   “We are extremely pleased that the building will be reopening for use as a YMCA,” said Glenn Oder, executive director of the Fort Monroe Authority.  “The YMCA is a pillar in neighborhoods and communities all across this country, providing a variety of services as well as offering resources to people looking to live healthy and enriched lives.   Having them back here at Fort Monroe is very significant for our progress as a place to live, work and enjoy recreation.”

“We are enthused to be able to meet community needs in this service area once again,” said Stacia Roeth, the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA’s chief operating officer.

The lease was handled on behalf of the landlord, Fort Monroe Authority, by DRE’s Sanford M. “Sandy” Cohen, chief operating officer, Chris Bendit and Elizabeth Greer from the Virginia Beach office of Divaris.

Supreme Lending leased 3,999 square feet of office space located in Convergence Center II at 277 Bendix Road in Virginia Beach, VA.  Supreme Lending was established in 1999 by Scott Everett and is committed to attracting not only the most professional loan officers but also the most cutting edge loan products. Supreme’s ever expanding branch network and expert mortgage professionals, offer customers a wide variety of loan products to help them achieve their dream of homeownership. Krista Costa of the Virginia Beach office of Divaris handled the lease on behalf of the tenant.

Motor Funding Services, LLC, leased 1,494 square feet of office space in the Divaris-leased and –managed Harbour Centre located at 2 Eaton Street in Hampton, VA.  Motor Funding Services, (MFS) and partnership company Fidelity Information Systems, (NYSE: FIS) is an automotive finance group that offers a turnkey platform to automotive dealerships to participate economically in the origination and servicing of leases. Through a unique, highly engineered corporate structure, dealerships originate and service leases, all on an outsourced turnkey basis.  The landlord, Armada Hoffler Hampton Centre Associates, LP, was represented by Chris Bendit of the Newport News office of Divaris Real Estate, in the lease negotiations.
